Bishop Warner remembered for humility in exile
United Methodist Bishop Bennie D. Warner had reached what many would consider his career pinnacle when a military coup upended his life and forever changed his ministry.
He was both bishop in Liberia and the west African nation’s vice president when in April 1980, the military overthrew the Liberian government and began executing the elected leaders. At the time, Warner was attending the Council of Bishops meeting just before that year’s General Conference in Indianapolis.
Debunking disinformation about regionalization
You don’t get much more biblical than the concept behind regionalization.
That was Bishop Mande Muyombo’s message about the proposal that would give The United Methodist Church’s different geographic regions equal decision-making authority.
“Throughout the Bible, God has recognized the diversity of cultures and nations included in the diversity in God’s redemptive plan for humanity,” Muyombo said.
