Graced by the presence of Resident Bishop Samuel J. Quire, Jr. of the Liberia Episcopal Area, Liberia Annual Conference, the United Methodist Church embarked on a significant journey during a two-day retreat of the Council of Connectional Ministry. The retreat, held at the Boulevard Palace Hotel in Monrovia, marked not only a resounding success but also a historic moment in the church’s trajectory.
The discussions at the retreat delved into critical issues concerning the future of the United Methodist Church in the Liberia Episcopal Area, particularly focusing on the modernization program. Key topics included the merging of District Conferences, the alignment of ministries and agencies, and the formulation of sustainable strategies for the church’s future endeavors.
In his address to the Council of Connectional Ministry, Bishop Samuel J. Quire, Jr. urged leaders to reflect on the impact of the recently concluded five-year strategic plan and to approach the future with open minds and hearts. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Zawolo Nelson, Acting Chairman of the Council, various ministries and agencies presented their programs and budgets for the year 2024.
The outcomes and insights generated during the retreat will be compiled into a comprehensive report by the United Methodist Church, Council of Connectional Ministry. This report will be presented to the Bishop’s Cabinet for review, with expectations for implementation over the next three years.
The retreat symbolizes a pivotal moment for the United Methodist Church in Liberia, as leaders come together to chart a course that will shape the future vision and direction of the church in the Liberia Episcopal Area.
