The peace and security of the Liberian state rest, constitutionally, with the government to protect lives and properties and maintain law and order for peaceful co-existence of its people; this responsibility is devolved upon the national security apparatus, especially, the Liberia National Police (LNP) in line with Part III; Sects. 22.86 & 22.87 of the 2016 amended Act of the Liberia National Police (LNP) under the caption: Maintenance of Public Order, therefore, we are hopeful that the Liberia National Police (LNP) is in full readiness to correct, in the event where a citizen or group of citizens engage in any act contrary to peace and harmony of our dear Country.

Notwithstanding, it is also, the civic responsibility of all citizens and residents alike to do everything legally and morally prudent to maintain peace and tranquility in their communities and the country at large. The actions and inactions of citizens could be helpful or derail the effort of maintaining peace and stability in our country.

Our Country Liberia is at a critical moment as we fast approach October 10, 2023, when all Liberians duly registered will go to the polls where the majority of the citizens are going to decide who becomes president and members of the National Legislature of the Republic of Liberia; Consequently, the United Methodist Men, Liberia Annual Conference, the United Methodist Church hereby seize this opportunity to call on all Liberians, regardless of your tribal background, religious affiliation or political orientation, to remain peaceful and law abiding during these processes of campaigning and voting on the day of elections.

We are aware of the exuberance youthfulness carries in these kinds of events and how robust young adults and adults can be as well, when it comes to promoting their candidates and defending a cause their political parties or alliances hold dearly; however, let us do all of these with respect for one another and in the confines of the Laws and in the spirit of peace. We call on all Liberians especially, United Methodists to refrain from violence and stay away from vain argument (a possible cause that ignites violence). The time for elections will soon be over but our acquaintances and relationship have a long way to go; let’s keep our bond and not lose it in the name of defending our political patrons, parties or alliances.

Finally, dear brethren: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7 (NIV).

God bless Liberia!
