In light of the ongoing challenges and misinformation surrounding the United Methodist Church’s regionalization efforts, Bishop Samuel J. Quire, the Resident Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area and President of the College of Bishops of the West Africa Central Conference, urged members of the Jorqulleh District to stay united and steadfast.

Speaking during the midday service at the 17th Annual Session and the 18th Anniversary of the Jorqulleh District Conference, held at Folobalai United Methodist Church in District #2, Bong County, Bishop Quire highlighted the importance of perseverance and faith.

He explained that the regionalization process aims to enable ministry to align with the culture and laws of each region, emphasizing that this initiative does not support same-sex marriage. “The definition of marriage remains a union between one man and one woman. The Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is not a gay church and will never be,” he asserted.

Bishop Quire reiterated the Church’s position against homosexuality, stating that it is incompatible with biblical teachings and a cultural taboo in Liberia. “The Liberia Annual Conference rejects same-sex marriage,” he affirmed.

Having been elected President of the College of Bishops of the West Africa Central Conference during the 10th Quadrennial Session in Ghana in 2024, Bishop Quire called for unity and adherence to biblical principles as the Church faces its challenges.

As the Jorqulleh District celebrated its significant anniversary, Bishop Quire’s message served as a rallying cry for courage and commitment. “Stay on board amidst the storm,” he encouraged, urging United Methodists to trust in God’s guidance as the Church navigates this crucial period.
