Gbarnga, Bong County — October 10, 2025: The Resident Bishop of the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC), Bishop Samuel J. Quire Jr., has commended members of the Muslim community in Liberia for their confidence in United Methodist institutions across the country.
Speaking at the 76th Commencement Convocation Ceremony of the William V. S. Tubman Gray United Methodist High School in Gbarnga, Bong County, Bishop Quire lauded the spirit of religious tolerance and cooperation that continues to strengthen Liberia’s educational and social fabric.
“I want to recognize and appreciate our brothers and sisters in the Muslim community for choosing United Methodist institutions that provide quality education, healthcare, and other essential services across Liberia,” Bishop Quire said.
Bishop Quire noted that Muslims in Liberia have continued to enroll their children in United Methodist schools and colleges, a testament to the Church’s commitment to providing holistic and inclusive education for all, regardless of religion or background.
The Resident of the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church named J.J. Roberts United Methodist School, the College of West Africa, the William V. S. Tubman Gray United Methodist High School, and the United Methodist University among several Methodist institutions that continue to serve students from diverse religious communities.
According to Bishop Quire The United Methodist Church in Liberia remains committed to advancing quality education and fostering peaceful coexistence among all Liberians through its network of schools and social ministries.
Bishop Quire reaffirmed the LAC/UMC mission, “ The United Methodist Church making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We continue to make disciples of Jesus Christ through our ministries, and our educational institutions will transform the world through educational services ”He lamented.
This year, the William V. S. Tubman Gray United Methodist High School graduated 85 students — both male and female — who successfully met the Ministry of Education’s requirements for secondary education.
The ceremony, attended by clergy, educators, parents, and community leaders, celebrated the students’ hard work and underscored the school’s legacy of academic excellence and moral discipline rooted in Methodist values.
Bishop Quire urged the graduates to use their education as a foundation for service, leadership, and unity in Bong County,Liberia and the world at large.
