Being cognizant of the sensitive conversation that have involved the United Methodist Church Globally relative to Human Sexuality, nearly a year ago, the Episcopal Bishop of the Liberia Annual conference Samuel J. Quire, Jr. appointed a Commission Name and style “The Way Forward Commission”.
In a colorful ceremony, graced by the Dean of the Bishop Cabinet, The Administrative Assistant to the Bishop couple with the presence of senior members of the Episcopal Area and Conference officials with deepening interest patiently witness the way forward Commission’s report presentation to the Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area, by way of Zoom, while he is on an official assignment in the United States.
The commission setup to look into the way forward for the United Methodist Church regarding the issue of human sexuality officially submit it findings to the Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area.
Speaking during the presentation of the commission’s findings to the Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church, Chairlady Muriel Nelson said, the issue of human sexuality now being discussed within the Church clearly violates the United Methodist Church Book of discipline and called on the church to stick with the decision of the 2019 called session of the general conference.
Mother Nelson then noted that a highlight of interview conducted from a cross section of United Methodists across the country however shows theologically, traditionally and religiously that the people of the Liberia Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church do not accept the lifestyle of homosexuality.
She however maintained that the decision made by the people target in the survey has given a clue for the United Methodist Church in Liberia to note that its connectionism to the worldwide United Methodist church has greatly provided a strong backing for homosexuality lifestyle within the church and across the nation.
Receiving the Commission’s report via Zoom Bishop Samuel Quire thanked members of the commission and however noted that what has being done is squarely intended to create awareness on the issue currently ongoing within the United Methodist Church.
Bishop Quire meanwhile noted that as the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church ready’s itself for the General Conference, it is important for members of the Church to note what is now trending and the purpose of the Commission’s report is to help members of the Church understand and make informed decision on said issue during and after the General Conference.
He at the same time informed members of the commission and senior United Methodists of the Liberia Episcopal Area about the African Colleges of Bishops commitment to remain traditional United Methodists
