On April 25, 2025, the John Jackson Memorial United Methodist Church on Warren Street, Monrovia, was the setting for a significant spiritual milestone; the induction ceremony of Rev. Eddie S. Langama as District Superintendent of the Monrovia District Conference, Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC).

The induction address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Momoh S. Kpaan, Sr., Dean of the Liberal Arts College at the United Methodist University, who brought a powerful message of hope, resilience, and unity.

In his remarks, Rev. Kpaan stressed the critical role that each member of the United Methodist Church plays during challenging times. He called on both Methodists and non-Methodists to embrace a spirit of patriotism and mutual support. Drawing inspiration from Jeremiah 1:4–10, Rev. Kpaan reminded the congregation that, like the prophet Jeremiah, they are called to serve courageously, even amid turmoil.

“Just as the prophet Jeremiah was called to deliver God’s message in a tumultuous time, we too are called to stand firm and serve our community with love and dedication,” Rev. Kpaan said. The ceremony’s theme, “Called in the Midst of Mess,” resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the need to face challenges head-on rather than shy away from them.

Rev. Kpaan passionately urged all United Methodists—and the broader community—to live out the true spirit of their faith, encouraging them to be proactive in addressing the issues affecting their neighborhoods and the nation as a whole. “Patriotism is not just about love for one’s country; it’s about taking action, uplifting others, and being a source of strength,” he explained. His words stood as a strong call for unity and collective responsibility during difficult times.

As Rev. Eddie S. Langama steps into this new leadership role, Rev. Kpaan’s message serves as a powerful reminder that spiritual leadership means embracing both the honor and the heavy responsibility that comes with guiding others through uncertain times. The ceremony was not only a celebration of Langama’s appointment but also a collective inspiration for everyone present to become agents of positive change in their lives and communities.

In closing, Rev. Kpaan urged everyone to remember their personal callings and to not fear the “messiness” of life. “Together, with God’s guidance, we can transform our challenges into opportunities for growth and service,” he affirmed.

For his part, Rev. Eddie S. Langama, Sr., expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Monrovia District Conference, the Liberia Annual Conference, and especially to Bishop Samuel Jerome Quire, Jr., for entrusting him and his family with this responsibility.

“As God calls us in these troubled times, this is not just a new role; it is a divine call to lead one of the local districts within the Liberia Annual Conference-UMC with peace and unity,” Rev. Langama said.

Rev. Langama was first appointed Acting District Superintendent in September 2024 and officially confirmed as District Superintendent in February 2025 during the 192nd Annual Session of the Liberia Annual Conference-UMC by Bishop Samuel Jerome Quire, Jr., Bishop of the Liberia Episcopal Area and President of the College of Bishops, West Africa Central Conference UMC.

Throughout his ministry, Rev. Langama has served in various leadership positions within the LAC/UMC and is a graduate of the Gbarnga School of Theology.

The occasion was further graced by distinguished guests, including Mother Richlain K. Quire (“Mother of the United Methodist Church in Liberia”), Rev. J. Joel Gould (Administrative Assistant to Bishop Quire), the District Superintendent of Nana Kru District Conference, the Dean of the Bishop’s Cabinet and District Superintendent of Gbarnga District, Rev. Peter Kaykkapai, as well as numerous clergy, laity, deaconesses, the Voice of J.J. Powdell Memorial UMC choir, family members, friends, and many others.
