Monrovia, Liberia – July 26, 2025 — As Liberia marks its 178th Independence Day, the Resident Bishop of the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (UMC), Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Quire, Jr., has extended a heartfelt message of unity, prayer, and national reflection.
In his official Independence Day message, Bishop Quire conveyed greetings to the nation and called on all Liberians to recommit to the principles of peace, justice, and shared progress. He offered special salutations to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, members of the Legislature and Judiciary, government officials, and Liberia’s diplomatic partners. His greetings also extended to Christian and Muslim communities, market women, and members of the United Methodist Church throughout the country.
“On this memorable occasion of Liberia’s 178th Independence Day, I bring warm greetings and prayerful wishes to the entire nation,” Bishop Quire said. “As we celebrate our nation’s independence, may we be reminded of our shared responsibility to uphold peace, justice, and unity. Let us continue to trust God for guidance as we work together to build a Liberia where everyone can thrive.”
The bishop’s remarks come at a time when Liberia faces both political and socio-economic challenges. His message of faith and national unity underscores the church’s longstanding role in advocating for moral leadership and social harmony in Liberia.
Bishop Quire concluded his message by invoking God’s continued grace over the nation: “Happy July 26, and may the Lord continue to bless and keep Liberia in His grace.”
The message was issued from the Liberia Annual Conference office, which also quoted Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
This year’s Independence Day theme, “Consolidating National Unity for Sustainable Development,” aligns with Bishop Quire’s spiritual call to action, reminding
