The United Methodist Department of Rural Agriculture (UMRADP) of the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) has unveiled a brand-new tractor, valued at US$46,000, aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and increasing food production within the church’s farming initiatives.
The dedication ceremony for the tractor was led by Bishop Samuel Quire, who emphasized the significant impact this investment would have on the church’s agriculture department. “This tractor will play a crucial role in improving agricultural productivity for the church, and we believe this is critical to our mission,” said Bishop Quire. The generous donation was made possible through the continued support of the GBGM-YAI Liberia Project, Phase Two.
Bishop Quire praised the contribution as a major step in advancing the church’s long-term agricultural goals. He prayed that the tractor would be used effectively to positively change food security efforts across Liberia. The tractor is expected to be instrumental in the church’s oil palm production and other farming projects at the UMRADP’s production facility in White Plains.
Rev. Joseph Theoway, Director of UMRADP, expressed his gratitude for the new equipment, noting that it will significantly enhance the department’s capacity to undertake large-scale agricultural projects, helping to strengthen the church’s role in community development through sustainable farming initiatives.
This initiative marks a notable milestone in the church’s efforts to empower rural communities, support local farmers, and contribute to Liberia’s agricultural growth. With increased mechanization, the church hopes to foster food security, improve livelihoods, and create opportunities for self-reliance within the church and its surrounding communities.
