Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) extends appreciation to Members of the House of Representatives, particularly the committee mediating issues related to rumors of same-sex marriage and disputes over United Methodist Church properties in Liberia.

During today’s public hearing, the LAC/UMC had the opportunity to present clarity and factual information to address misinformation being circulated by individuals affiliating with other denominations amid the ongoing property dispute.

The delegation emphasized that the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church  has already submitted all necessary documents and materials to the committee, chaired by Hon. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan of Grand Gedeh County, to assist lawmakers in their investigation and serve as official references moving forward.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, former River Gee County Senator Comany Wesseh reaffirmed the LAC/UMC’s unwavering commitment to the biblical definition of marriage, as well as to the laws of the Republic of Liberia.

Following extensive deliberations, the committee rescheduled another hearing for Thursday, August 21, 2025 and  August ,Wednesday 27,2025 respectively. 

The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church assures its members, the government, and the general public of its continued commitment to truth, transparency, and peaceful resolution of these matters, while faithfully upholding both spiritual and legal principles in its ministry across Liberia.
