In a significant step towards bolstering Liberia’s health sector through education, the United Methodist University (UMU) has unveiled a groundbreaking mental health educational program within its campus facilities.

During the launch ceremony, Dr. Yah Gono, the President of the university, emphasized the critical role of mental health in post-war Liberia, where its impact transcends individual lives to shape the broader society. Dr. Gono expressed confidence that this new program will address a major need within the country.

Dorbor Jallah, the Country Representative of the Carter Center Liberia, commended the university for its commitment to mental health education, recognizing it as a remarkable achievement for the country’s educational landscape.

Dr. Willena Jallah, the Minister of Health, extended her gratitude to UMU and pledged government support for the program. She also affirmed her dedication to working in the best interest of Liberia’s health sector.

The launch event took place at the university’s conference room in central Monrovia and witnessed the presence of government officials, civil society organizations, and foreign partners of the university, among others.
